This Week’s Comics

In the spirit of sampling, here’s a sampling of pages I “found” of Gotham City: Year One online, which we have a good number of at the store. Let’s test the old argument that file trading actually increases sales…
It’s hard to say whether it’s the advent of Amazon or digital comics that is making things more challenging for retailers (and since Amazon now owns ComiXology, that might be a moot question), but I think one good thing that retailers can take back from Amazon is their digital sneak-peek tactic allowing shoppers to “try before you buy” a comic.
But like a good trailer, there’s an art to giving away just enough, and not the entire thing. Gotham City had a few natural cliffhangers, but I might just have picked one way too far in. What do you think?

But we can’t leave you on that note!
Thanks to everyone who dropped by last Saturday for Gizmo’s Sidewalk Sale/Investiture Ceremony. Long may Gizmo I reign!
