Vergence in The Force... Free Comic Book Day is on Saturday May 4th
And also quiet quitting Substack in the loudest way possible
You know what the deal is with Free Comic Book Day — from 12-3PM on Saturday, we’ll be giving out our specially curated special editions in front of the store so make the hyperspace jump here and there just might be a slapdash cantina band celebrating the anniversary of the store in the after-hours.
Truth be told, we’re in full procrastination mode, and will probably need to make a follow-up post with more details on what’s exactly going down that day, so now is a great time to convert your Auction Credit into store credit, or if you haven’t already, load up on Auction Credit in the first place, so you can bid on this guitar that is begging to get smashed at the afterparty...
…or these absolutely filthy and scandalous comics that Uel will absolutely NOT be putting out in the open bins.
To bid, just load up on auction credit then email fantastic.comics.store@gmail.com with your bids. $10 minimum on each of the adult books, $20 for the guitar on account it only has five of six strings, and woe be unto those who attempt to replace it.
To convert your existing auction credit to store credit by FCBD, email fantastic.comics.store@gmail.com before noon this Friday.
And in the spirit of May the 4th Be with You, we want to let you know that everyone’s favorite outer space drama of rebel alliances, sassy robots, and ghost babysitters is coming back in July. That’s right Saga is off hiatus and picks up with issue #67
The Saga Continues
That means you have almost three months to get caught up with the bestselling comic in the store.
Of course the Evil Empire right now has over 40% off on both the volume 1-9 box sets at $75.20 ( click here to buy from *sigh* Amazon )
as well as the big, big floppy (but disturbingly fragile) compendium that covers the same material at $33.99 ( Yup, Amazon has undercut us here, too )
Uel has basically stopped carrying this version because of its tendency to rip apart at the seams, so this is the one to get if you treat your books extra gingerly, or conversely, if you absolutely ravage your books.
Look, we won’t be judgy if you go to the dark side to get caught up (and our landlord will thank you for the commission kickback), especially if you show up at the store to keep this Saga going. You’ll still need Volumes 10 and 11 to get fully caught up, and thankfully Big Bad Bezos isn’t deep discounting quite as much on these so here are our bookshop links for: Saga Volume 10, Saga Volume 11
One foot out the door, or at least one big toe…
Believe it or not, way before the latest wave of Substack quits a few months back, we’ve been thinking of an escape plan (heck, just read last year’s FCBD post), but in addition to praying at the altar of procrastination, we still don’t have a lot of good options for the golden handcuffs of free mass-emailing that is Substack.
But we think we’ve found a possible, if ultimately just as precarious escape hatch — Google Groups. Built back in the days when internet newsgroups were still a thing, Google Groups oddly enough, appears to have no limit to the number of members who get email digests, which makes it effectively a free unlimited mailing list — which is great since Gmail itself limits most emails to 500 recipients.
However, in addition to putting our livelihood further in the hands of yet another big tech company, Google has a tendency to um… discontinue services by seemingly pure caprice. Still, between the two of them Google is the less likely to be bankrupted by their own fiscal and social imprudence.
In any case, if you’d like to jump the Substack ship early, just reply to this e-mail and we’ll see about getting the group set up.
Well I think Substack is probably a better fit for a mailing list like this than google groups but I don't really care.
