First off, thanks to James G. for visualizing our door replacement.
And here is our actual door at the moment:
We’ll get there…
Fantastic Games
Ever since GameStop closed in Berkeley, we’ve had idle thoughts about getting into the video game racket. We also have a bag full of PS4 games sitting in our dungeon/back-issue basement for some reason.
One problem (among many), is that some of the best games out there are free, and it is very hard to stay afloat selling free games. Here’s just a few that are making the rounds, and will definitely last you through this rainy weekend.
Wordle substitutes
Supporters of the New York Times strikers have ended their wordle streaks in solidarity, but there’s a universe of wordle-inspired games to fill the void (including a cheeky strikle).
I’ve been improving my heinously poor sense of geography (and cheating by looking up maps skills) with Globle.

More boggle than wordle, Anigrams has a slightly higher ratio of frustration to reward, and will also suck up more time.

The itch.io industrial complex
Itch has long been a portal for amateurs and sometimes pros to throw up free-to-play games, and in my opinion, the best use of this is for one-level mini-games with deceptively simple mechanics that will give your brain a mini-dopamine hit when you finally crack the devious solutions, such as this advent-calendar-style collection:
https://confoundingcalendar.itch.io
Here are my favorites so far:
Easy (took me a few minutes)
https://carnaxcce.itch.io/shy-robotsMedium (took me more than a few minutes)
https://cindyburn.itch.io/strengthHard (I’m embarrassed how long this took me!)
https://orion-black.itch.io/ytpme
For more than just one level, I’m hooked on this sokoban-esque match-3 game

Also, if you’re looking to gutshoot your entire weekend, the infamous Castlevania-inspired no-button one-man Gauntlet time suck, Vampire Survivors (also on itch), is now free on mobile.
So, yeah, we’re probably not going to be getting into gaming (other than, y’know, just literally playing video games) any time soon, but we do have some sweet black light posters…
Posters are in many ways an easier line for a brick and mortar business than games. Now, if we can just get a supplier for black light bulbs…
We’ll be shutting down Half Price Comics soon…
…temporarily, to have a moving sale auction!
Are we moving? These books are from our move three years ago so technically, yes, we’re still in the process of moving, and we really want these books to move so the minimum bid for each book will be $1.
It will take us a few days to set up, mostly to figure out how not to get completely eaten up with processing fees, but if you pay in cash, 100% will go to Gizmo.
In the meantime, halfpricecomics.ofberkeley.com is still up if you want to deprive the dollar diggers of their glory.
