Today’s Berkeley Comic Show is even closer to us.
Uel usually takes an early morning gander when the Berkeley Comic Show comes to town and now it’s just a stroll away at MLK Middle School. Hit us both up!

Doorbuster Savings?
We’re looking to hold a “door raiser” to upgrade our oddly shaped and much abused door soon. But what should be the incentives?
Forever Stamps have gone up 5 cents to 78 cents
But you can still get a roll at the old price at Costco until August 11. We tend to be more in the stamp-using business versus collecting (though Uel does have a cool D&D themed Forever Stamp sheet), but FYI there is also a SpongeBob Forever Stamp coming out.
Matt Kindt and sticking the landing
We’re big Matt Kindt boosters at the store, but there’s always a gambler’s thrill when you start a series — will it stick the landing? Others might disagree, but I think Kindt started really strong with the extra-planetary adventure If You Find This, I'm Already Dead but the pacing went awry by the last issue. There’s so many pressures on comic books — shortened runs, missed dates, cancelled titles — even a mini series with a plan can get out of hand.
I just finished Gilt Frame, though, a whodunnit locked room caper, and in my opinion it sticks the ending just great! Perfect as a standalone, but also rich enough to spawn a franchise lucrative enough for the Kindts to retire to a life of international hijinks, much in the manner of the protagonists. Don’t discuss it with Uel though since he’s only read the first part. We’ve wanted to start a consultancy advising streaming services which comics they should drop a ton of money on adaptation options so if you’re a Netflix exec or Hollywood wonk, you should absolutely buy this from our bookshop link.
But just in general, how much do you want to know about a book before you read it?
